The time has come to remind you again of the 14th GENERAL MEETING OF EUROPEAN WOMEN IN MATHEMATICS (EWM) which will be held in NOVI SAD, SERBIA, during August 25-28, 2009, at the Department of Mathematics and Informatics, University of Novi Sad Faculty of Sciences.

The 14th general meeting of EWM will take place in Novi Sad, Serbia, during August 25-28, 2009. We are looking forward to welcome you in our beautiful town. 

Novi Sad is the capital of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, its economic, cultural, scientific, educational, health and administrative center with nearly 200.000 inhabitants. The city is situated on the left bank of the Danube River in South Backa, in northern part of Serbia.

Many interesting facts and information can be found in Novi Sad.pdf (968KB). Beside the city history, this leaflet presents the city center, together with many churches and buildings. You can also find out more on cultural life of Novi Sad, its green areas, on Petrovaradin Fortress, Sremski Karlovci and the National park Fruska gora. The 14th general meeting of European Women in Mathematics (EWM) will take place in Novi Sad, Serbia during August 25-28, 2009. You are warmly invited to participate in the conference.

For more than 20 years EWM has organized biennial conferences which are open to members as well as non-members of EWM. The most recent, the 13th general meeting, took place in September 2007, at the University of Cambridge, UK, gathering more than 100 women mathematicians from various fields of research.

In August of next year, the 14th general meeting of EWM will be held at the Department of Mathematics and Informatics, Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad. The 2009 European Mathematical Society lecturer will be Professor Ingrid Daubechies, of Princeton University, and she will give some of her EMS lectures at the EWM meeting in Novi Sad.

Located on the Danube River, Novi Sad is the urban center of northern Serbia, its second largest city and the capital of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. Novi Sad is a hospitable town; we hope that you will enjoy its open-hearted welcome.

In order to organize the meeting successfully, we would be very grateful if you could let us know in advance the following information:
1. Whether you will
(a) very likely or
(b) possibly
participate in the conference.
2. Whether you would like to join our conference mailing list; the members of the mailing list will be given regular information about the meeting.
3. Whether you would like to participate but would need financial support.

We are currently applying for some financial support for the meeting. However financial support for participants will be very limited and will in any case not cover more than partial living expenses during the meeting. Travel expenses will be left for participants’ home institutions.
